This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are varied grade levels 9-12. Many of my students are gifted and very bright and have their own unique style. I don’t want them to be limited by a lack of resources which can hold back progress and productivity. They love hands on projects, drawing and painting murals ,technology and creative media. I currently have three beginner drawing classes and one advanced level class in addition to two paint classes. Some of them are advanced level and will go on to choose art related careers.
My Project
I am looking to purchase a classroom set of Scholastic Arts magazine. Many of the students in my school struggle with literacy and standardized testing. This would be a great way to enrich our curriculum. The scholastic arts magazine has interesting links to art history and contemporary art as well as engaging art projects for the students to create. These would be a great enhancement to our program, and the students would greatly benefit from having a way to integrate the arts with literacy. We have raised enough for half the class, but my classes are large, with over forty students in each subject.
