Literacy in Math, Say What?

My students need BOOKS, reading wall decals, and a bookshelf! I am trying to bring Literacy into the math classroom.

My Students

These students are in 6th and 7th grade and go to a Title I school. The entire school receives free lunch, and most of the families come from inner-city backgrounds.

Being a Title I school, funding for materials can be very limited, so I want to be able to provide my team with the best resources to help them reach their full potential.

These students work hard and are extremely motivated. I want them to feel successful in how they are performing.

My Project

This year I am switching over from general education to exceptional education. Most of my students are struggling readers and I would like to increase the amount of exposure to reading as much as possible. I need your help in donating money towards some math story books, a book shelf and wall decal to make my reading section "stand out" in the classroom. Many of my students come to me below grade level so some of the books will help create a fun-filled learning experience in which will help my students grow in the math and reading!

Although I will still be teaching math I need to spice up the classroom!

Providing reading opportunities that cover math standards in various levels will help keep my students engaged as they read all the story books. This will also help bring a "real-world" connection as some of the stories will show math being used in real life scenarios.

I want my students to be excited about reading & math, and with your help we can make this happen!
