My Project
Having these books part of our classroom library is paving the way to develop a classroom that is exclusively about the inclusion of all. It will promote my continued theme within the classroom that everyone is created equal and that we must respect others regardless of their differences. My job is to support, love and educate my students while helping them become caring, compassionate, and empathetic adults. This project is helping us get one step closer to our goal.
These carefully selected novels will expose students to themes that will emphasize each character's differences, prompting discussions and ultimately empathetic readers.
The biggest issue that most of us deal with is the resistance to judge others when we do not completely understand the causes behind what we see as an issue. This is a critical social skill to master for young adults.
Literature is powerful as the words of a well-written book can take you on a visual journey to a better understanding of diverse people that you may have never personally encountered before. This project is aimed at creating an inclusive environment through exposure to varying points of view and backgrounds through literature.
