This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager to learn and excited to read! They want to read with their parents and to their younger siblings. They love literacy, learning, and that warm cozy feeling you get when you curl up and read a book to enjoy with someone you love or to share interesting facts. My students are learning English and when they start with me they speak very little English and know few letters or sounds. Their parents do not know how to read in English and would love to read to their children but they can’t because our books are in English. I purchased 12 books in Spanish for my own children and share the books among all the students. Most of my books are leveled for third grade students. I would like to give the gift of early literacy and also have take home activities to promote literacy for the students.

My Project

Our students are hungry for new books. They want to take books home and read to their parents. They will also be able to choose books that interest them and share the joy of reading with their parents. The best way to increase reading ability is to read frequently, and these books will help my students grow stronger in reading and foster a sense of community with parents who can’t read in English. My students already have check out all 12 books over and over, please help us get new books.
