Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Literacy is a foundational skill that opens doors to academic achievement, self-expression, and lifelong learning, especially for bilingual students.

In my classroom, students engage with literacy daily through reading, writing, speaking, and digital learning activities.

The resources I am requesting—a Chromebook station, chargers, pencils, binders, dividers, mesh zipper bags, and soccer materials—are essential tools to support and enrich these experiences.

The Chromebook station will give students access to bilingual digital libraries, reading comprehension programs, and writing platforms like Google Docs. These tools allow students to draft essays, collaborate on projects, and publish their work in both English and Spanish. Chargers ensure that devices stay powered and ready for learning, minimizing interruptions.

Each student will use a journal for daily reading responses, writing prompts, vocabulary practice, and bilingual reflections. These journals provide space for creative and academic expression, helping students strengthen grammar, sentence structure, and language confidence in both languages.

Binders will serve as personalized literacy portfolios where students collect and organize reading logs, written drafts, anchor charts, and notes. With the help of dividers, students can create clearly labeled sections such as “Reading,” “Writing,” “Vocabulary,” and “Projects” to build independence and executive functioning skills.

Soccer-themed literacy activities will also be integrated to boost engagement, especially for students who are passionate about sports. Students will write personal narratives about playing soccer, read informational texts about famous bilingual athletes, and use soccer scenarios to create bilingual word problems tied to our Eureka math units. Soccer gloves and balls will be used during structured academic breaks and integrated into project-based lessons where students describe game strategies or create bilingual soccer rulebooks.

Together, these materials will help me build a literacy-rich and culturally relevant environment where students feel empowered, organized, and equipped to succeed in two languages—both in the classroom and on the soccer field.
