it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Covid-19 impacted students, educators and families in many ways. Some students in my class entered preschool during Covid while others skipped preschool because of the risks. The stress that was put on families was immense and Covid-19 impacts still produce a ripple effect. Though we all did our best we know that Covid left gaps in our classroom for a variety of reasons and for many of my students this was during their toddler and preschool years. Preschool is a time to learn how to engage with others, learn the routines of school, playing games and developing a love of learning. Preschool is also a key time to lay the foundation for reading through play. Preschool is a key time for social emotional development.
Learning through games is extremely powerful for students.
The challenge is that the highly impactful games are often out of reach for most educators. Students will not only enhance their literacy skills, but they will also develop key SEL skills through playing these games. Learning how to take turns, learning sportsmanship and learning how to follow rules will be something that they take with them everywhere. These games will help them develop their phonics skills, phonological awareness, comprehension skills and even grammar skills. Dry erase boards and markers to practice penmanship and spelling will enable them to become writers, something that was lost during Covid as we turned to technology.
During Covid-19 classrooms had to remove many things like hands on manipulatives as they posed a risk of spreading germs. Hands-on manipulatives are key for many students in learning in both math and Literacy. Students can manipulate words to increase their phonics skills and become faster readers as they switch out letters.
All of these materials will take our classroom to the next level.
