This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing four year-olds from the US and Mexico. Most are Spanish speaking or bilingual students. Our classroom is a bilingual pre-kindergarten class located on the Texas/Mexico border in what has been ranked the "Poorest City in America," but that is not what you will find in this class. You will find students who are eager to learn and excited about their first year of schooling. We take pride in creating an environment that gets students excited for learning to create a strong starting point to becoming lifelong learners. These students are sponges for learning and come in every day with the willingness and determination to learn and succeed.

My Project

Please help me upgrade my classroom library with books and literacy puzzles to help teach my students the importance of literacy. The books that I am requesting will help my student be self aware of their feelings and emotions as well as visually seeing examples of a variety of situations and see how others have overcome their situations. I am also requesting books that bring cultural awareness to our small town where many children look the same. Brownsville is over 95% Hispanic and many cultures are not represented in our community. By having literature that shows a variety of characters I am hopeful that these will help supplement my lessons on multiculturalism.
