Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from an almost all low income and mostly Hispanic area. These students do not have access to many things that other students have, such as technology or parents who speak English. Many of these students do not have the help at home, that they need. Many of them are struggling students, with struggling parents at home.

Most of our students come from single parent households who do not speak English.

Our school is located in a melting pot area. We have students from all over in Miami. Many students also come from single parent families. All of these challenges only makes it harder for students to want to succeed, but it is our job to make sure that they do!

My Project

My students range from proficient to struggling readers. These materials will give them the opportunity to enhance their literacy skills at different levels. The classes that I have range from retained students to students who are on grade level and need the challenge.

Reading a a fundamental skill that leads to every other subject, without having a strong foundation, every other subject suffers.

The material will be used to improve phonics and decoding with my retained second graders. The vocabulary and comprehension will be used to enhance literacy skills with my third graders. These will be used in small group aside from curriculum to enhance literacy.

The Boost Comprehension will be used in small group with the third graders. This will help them get ready for the FSA. The 5-Minute Vocabulary Cards will be for the same purpose. Students always lack vocabulary and this is a quick way to make sure they get some practice daily. The Unifix Phonics as well as the CVC Cubes and Word Building Cards will be used with my second grade retained students. Many of them have tested in a Kindergarten level and need the extra assistance with phonics to help them build a better literacy foundation.
