My Students
We are a brand new school in a growing community in Katy, TX! My students are a fun group with lots of energy who love learning and having fun while doing it! They've come together from different backgrounds and schools and are so excited to greet each new day!
We had a crazy start to our year when Hurricane Harvey arrived and flooded our neighborhoods after only a week and a half of school.
We missed 11 days of school in the first month! Many students were displaced due to the storm and its aftermath and all of our lives were affected. Despite the challenging start to our year, my students have weathered the storm and came out on top.
My Project
My students love to read! I have lots of old favorites in my class library, but I'm in need of highly engaging nonfiction books that reach the kids at their reading level. Students who have a variety of books available to them have a higher chance of becoming motivated about reading.
I love to watch a child pick up a book and say, "Hey, I can read this!" Better readers make better learners!
It is so important for the children to be able to choose nonfiction books to read that are at their independent reading levels. National Geographic, Scholastic Magazines, and Time for Kids all help foster that love of nonfiction reading with captivating photographs and words the kids can read! The students will be able to have their own book boxes filled with texts specifically geared towards their immediate skills.
