Help me give my students more reading materials that are suited for their individual needs. My students need more practice with reading new words and nonfiction text. These materials will support me in those efforts.
My students represent the beautiful diversity which makes our nation so wonderful. As an English Learner teacher, I work with children in grades K-5 who speak and understand languages other than English.
I work hard to celebrate the cultural and linguistic diversity of our group because it is a beautiful and glorious thing!
The students I have the honor to teach this year speak or have family members who speak a variety of international languages including English, Spanish, Urdu, Chinese, German, and Punjabi.
My Project
English Language Learners need access to many different types of text including fiction, nonfiction, books, magazines, etc. Scholastic News articles provide great visuals and learning supports for students who are learning English. Some of the structures and supports that are helpful to my English Language Learners include the following: glossaries, bold words, bright images, summaries, comprehension questions, and high-interest topics. The Scholastic News articles provide high-interest reading opportunities for our students. Because they are consumable, students can also take their individual copies home and share their learning with their families. This also helps to build a stronger home to school connection!
