Help me give my students engaging books that they will love to read.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are of African American descent who are eager to learn. They have an innate love for learning as it distracts them from their neighborhood environment.
The community which they live in is filled with gangs, drug dealers, and shootings on a daily basis.
They come to school every single day, some of whom just lost a family member to violence. Their behavior in my class is flawless. They love being in school and reading about different subjects and themes.
Through previous donations from Donorschoose, my students gained three grade levels in reading. Now a new challenge arises. I need more difficult books to accommodate their growth and enable them to grow even more. These resources will be used for whole group instruction, Literature Circles as well as independent reading. The books will correlate to the Common Core Standards enabling them to compete with students from all areas. They will respond to Literature prompts through writing, group discussions, debates and Socratic Seminars. The new vocabulary that they will develop through the reading, writing and discussions will teach them how to read critically and analyze different aspects of Literature.
