My Students

I am a first-grade teacher in a wonderful school in Wisconsin. My students are very special, and I just love going to school every day to see the sparkle in their little 5 to 8-year-old eyes. I truly have the most special job in the world and treasure every day with my students! Working well with parents, students, coworkers, and other specialists is an important part of my teaching day. Enjoying reading with my students is my absolute favorite part of being a teacher!

My Project

I am so excited about the possibility of attending the Literacy For All Conference and the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, Rhode Island, for the purpose of enriching my literacy and writing instruction for my students. I love to teach reading and writing, and as I have been researching, learning, and trying new things in the area of reading, I have centered my teaching around several mentors that have really inspire me, and so much of what I do.

At least four of the mentors that inspire my teaching the most will actually be teaching seminars at this Literacy for All Conference, and I just can not miss the opportunity to learn from them directly.

I want to take everything that I learn from these amazing literacy leaders back to my students. I plan to attend the conference, and then spend the final day exploring at the Roger Williams Park Zoo, where I will use what I have learned to continue my creation of sight word filled ebooks and my portfolio of inspirational photos for Writers' Workshop. I plan to gather tons of animal photos and video footage to include in my work, to inspire my students' learning.

I have spent several days planning this experience, and really feel that it will benefit my students and my teaching in so many ways. I am requesting the conference fees, zoo admission, airline tickets, meals, and hotel stays for the 4 nights of this professional development experience. I will also be paying for a large chunk of this project out of my own pocket, which demonstrates how important this is to me. Thank you for any help and support that you can offer. This truly is an excellent an excellent opportunity!
