My class is an ICT, Integrated Co-teaching classroom, consisting of general education and special education students. The majority of my students come from a low social economic status.
Forty percent of my class are students with disabilities as well as students who speak another language at home.
Our school is a Leader in Me school. We were rewarded with being a Lighthouse School. Our students strive to use the 7 habits +1. We believe that every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths, and is gifted in his or her own way. The students in my class strive to work hard everyday. They know that working hard in class will make their mind grow. Having a growth mindset is something that we reflect on daily. Having appropriate and engaging books to help our students grow into fluent and life-long readers is our goal.
My Project
Help us create a print-rich environment to help our students grow into life long readers. Using the book cart and bins will allow our students to access books, labeled by their interests. Every children's book that is placed in our library is treated with love and care. Our class looks forward to any moment where they can read a book, or have books read to them. The books I have chosen, were specifically chosen with my students interests and levels in mind. I have selected books that are on their reading level, and books that would engage them. I have also asked my class what type of books enjoy reading.
Students will be able to choose books from the reading cart, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level. This project will enrich our classroom and help nurture our students love of reading.
