My Students

My students are a diverse population with over half of them being from low economic families. They enjoy learning, structure, independence and being challenged. They have an array of interests, personalities, and academic strengths and weaknesses. This makes for an exciting and challenging school environment. The majority of my students are involved in extra curricular activities beyond the classroom.

The library is the instructional hub of the school.

My students love the library and view it as a sanctuary. It is a place for readers and non-readers alike. They see it as a safe place to catch their breath, unwind and regroup. They can stop in throughout the day and refresh before facing the many challenges they incur.

My Project

My students need chairs for their literacy circles. My students enjoy reading books and participating in book talks with their peers. My students need an environment that is comfortable and inviting environment for these activities. These chairs would be placed in a designated area in the library used for literacy circles.

With these chairs, my students will be able to actively participate in literacy circles with their peers.

Students will be equipped to share their love of reading and encourage others to read more. Literacy circles is a strategy that has been shown to positively impact student achievement. Developing a love of reading would greatly benefit my students.
