This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of students who are growing up in the tumultuous climate that is plaguing Baltimore and many other areas in this country. Even with all of the stresses that they face, they are still eager to learn and love school. The troubles of the world around them have not discouraged their young minds.

With all they will learn about the world, my students need the right resources to help them to continue to love of learning and desire to change the world.

My Project

Literacy centers allow the kindergarteners in my class to practice the skills that they have been learning in class at their own pace. Since the kindergarteners at my school switch classes like the older students, the materials in the literacy centers do not last as long. Dry erase markers, stamps, playdoh, paper, glue and other creative materials run out quickly when they are being used by 62 students.

Literacy centers are an integral part of learning in Kindergarten because it allows students an opportunity to safely demonstrate their understanding of classroom topics without fear of judgement.

The creative materials in this product will give students a chance to rehearse and expand writing, spelling and fine motor skills. The audio materials (cd player, audio jack splitter, and headphones) will allow students to read and listen to stories to increase their enjoyment of reading.
