My students need Touch & Read Phonics, Float & Find Alphabet Bubbles, Language Rods and Positional Word activities for hands-on and flexible/collaborative learning in our amazing classroom!
I have curious, energetic, creative, inspiring, and eager-to-learn kindergarten students in my classroom each year! I lead an organized, focused and differentiated learning environment with access to materials that address each need among various subject disciplines.
At the end of each year, and continuously throughout their educational journey, I want my students to be confident learners, seekers of knowledge and great citizens for our school, their families and the community around us.
I work diligently for each student to be challenged daily and be the best that they can be, where he or she is at, in their kindergarten journey and beyond.
I have seventeen, full-time kindergarten students and seven additional developmental students that "push-in" for fifty percent of the day in the school year 2017-2018.
They all arrive with a variety of interests, talents, backgrounds and specific emotional and physical needs. All my students need fluid transitions, a prepared, print-rich, and organized environment, sensory breaks and consistent encouragement to keep them focused and ready for each task ahead. My school is an amazing family of strong leaders and teachers, support staff, parents, and community members.
My Project
My classroom allows for a lot of movement, flexible seating, rotating groups with countless opportunities involving visual and hands-on discovery. I introduce each skill and standard with meaningful roll-out and resources to help each child feel successful and engaged in the learning concepts for our grade level and beyond. The Touch and Read Phonics brings blending and segmenting to life as they can see the letters in front of them, touch the letters, and make the final product of the sounds. I will have them write these words after this practice with this ideal visual assistance. The Alphabet Bubbles can be an interactive review of sounds in small groups, as well as an exciting way to touch and place sounds together to make basic CVC words. I love how this can bring interest to an area where some students struggle with truly enjoying the world of reading! I am especially excited about the possibility of having the Language Rods and Positional Word activities. My ELL and SL(speech) students will truly thrive with these practices and it will also provide challenge to my students as they are charged to "present" and have conversations with their peers about sorting groups and creating positional "stories".
Resources like these are invaluable for targeted instruction, peer collaboration and depth of knowledge interaction.
A strong letter name/sound and overall phonetic foundation with spacial concept mastery is key to a successful reader, writer and mathematical mind. These tools will assist those who need to fill various gaps in ELA, language skills or spacial concepts, as well as challenge those who display a strong background in phonics or basic standards yet need to strengthen speaking skills, collaboration or demonstration of personal learning. This project has a lot of inspiring and innovative possibilities!
