This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Think back to the one classroom that stands out in your memory. Does it stand out because of the teacher, the classroom, or a mixture of both? I believe that the most memorable classrooms have a mixture of a good teacher and a great classroom.
My kindergarten students attend a urban charter school which is very sparse with its supplies.
At the beginning of the year we are supplied with a hook for each child, four tables, and 25 student chairs. Just enough to have 25 students sit at their tables, yet nothing more.
My Project
I believe that with a book cart to organize our books, a journal stand to organize our binders, and marker board stands to store our marker boards, erasers and markers, my students will have a much more appealing and organized literacy center. At the moment we do not have anywhere to store our boards or journals. We also have to use an old storage shelf for our books.
With an area that is more organized and appealing the students will enjoy literacy time, in effect giving them more time and opportunities to learn at their own level.
With these additions to our classroom I believe we could have a classroom that would leave a lasting impression!
