This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Kindergarten is such an exciting time for many families. For some of my students, kindergarten is their first school experience, however, this year will be different due to COVID and the multitude of challenges that come with the pandemic. However, we will rise up and overcome the challenge with your support. Each student will enter our class at different steps in their development, some ready to learn letters, sounds and some ready to read. We celebrate our differences and learn from and with each other as we begin in supporting them in their journey of becoming lifelong learners.
My job is to prepare students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them.

My Project
The materials that I am requesting will help ensure that these young learners will continue to build a strong foundation. The Early Language Folder Game Libraries, Teacher Pay Teacher gift card, Beginning Sound Instant Learning Center, as well as the Linking Letter Monkeys Uppercase and Lowercase will help ensure that all of my students will have engaging fun hands-on activities that they can manipulate and build phonemic awareness skills. These skills will allow them to continue on an upward trajectory of becoming fluent readers.
As an educator, I believe that the two most important predictors of early reading success are alphabet recognition and phonemic awareness.
Phonemic awareness is the understanding that spoken words are made up of individual sounds. Phonic awareness provides a foundation on which phonics instruction is built.
