My Students

Our classroom community is made up of a diverse group of first grade students who vary in ethnicity, home language, socioeconomic status and learning style. Developmentally, first grade is an exciting mix of interests, abilities, and goals. As we learn to read, write, and count, we love to learn with one another and from one another.

As teachers, we are committed to creating an equitable learning environment in which ALL children can grow academically and socially.

Beginning this school year with "distance learning" provides new challenges and opportunities. We are meeting students' unique and diverse needs by providing high quality, engaging opportunities for learning.

My Project

Our first grade students will come together for distance learning in just a few weeks! We are planning and preparing for high quality, rigorous, and relevant instruction. We believe in the Teachers College workshop model for teaching reading and writing and hope to leverage their resources to provide the best possible experience for our first grade students this year.

Our students will need a variety of distance learning opportunities to keep engagement and literacy learning high.

During distance learning last spring we utilized small groups to support students in making academic and social-emotional gains. This year, the Teachers College minilessons will be used to support students' reading and writing during asynchronous learning. Students will then deepen their skills and understanding of content during literacy small groups.

As a key component of literacy instruction, Teachers College minilessons will provide a dynamic and engaging distance learning experience for our first graders this year!
