Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with a wonderful group of students. These students are eager to learn and try to understand. Many come from low income families and all have special needs, which makes learning without appropriate resources much harder.
My students need many hands on materials in order to grasp concepts.
These children are hard working and deserve the chance to see just how much they can learn. They deserve the chance to show what they are capable of even if they cannot always write it out.
My Project
Using hands on materials is vital for children with special needs in order to ensure they learn and understand the curriculum. For example, the counting boxes help children work together to discover all about numbers. Using manipulatives they will have the opportunity to use one-to-one correspondence in a way that not only concrete but is meaningful to them as well. Hands on materials provide all types of learners; visual, auditory and tactile with their own methods of learning. It is the simplest method to hit every learning style in a fun and engaging way. The children are learning and enjoying school using these materials will provide them with a more positive ideal of school. The file folders will give my students a way to practice the skills they learned in our lessons in a way that will foster peer-to-peer communication. All of the materials focus on building a strong core understanding for which everything they learn afterwards will be built on top of.
