My Project

Our students have come a long way this year in their independence and are ready to grab their pencil box and workbook for their math and literacy daily work but we need a little help with these supplies! Our class of students with moderate disabilities grades K-5 have worked diligently all year to acquire independence in classroom routines, functional academics, communication, and self-advocacy and are ready for this important next step. At the onset of the year the teacher needed to hand just one page and the necessary writing tool to each student but now most of our students are ready for a more mature/natural system during learning centers.

Please help us add a coil binding machine and pencil boxes to our classroom to help our students gain independence in their literacy and math work.

We'd love to use our existing math and literacy curriculum to make students individualized station workbooks that lay flat to allow students to easily work both sides of the page without the binding interfering. Student are also ready for individual supply boxes rather than community or teacher-controlled supplies.

We'll use the coil binder year after year to create individualized student workbooks as well as to bind our adapted books to create a library of resources for years to come. The coil binding is a better option for our students and materials as it allows the books to lay flat on the table.

Our students now each recognize their name in print and have learned to find their name throughout our classroom so they are ready to find their own workbook and pencil box for our math and literacy centers. This gives them more independence and will help them generalize these advocacy skills to their grade level classrooms in the future.
