Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a lasting impact on my students.

My students are second language learners, from busy families with two working parents.

They are in preschool for the majority of the day. I want to help them build knowledge and curiosity about why things happen in the world around them and how they learn from and influence their natural and physical environment. A stimulating informative preschool experience gives them positive interactions with their environment and books creating a solid foundation for continued learning in the future.

My students are curious and want to explore the natural world. Our class has a limited supply of big books. During read aloud big books provide easily visible illustrations which are extremely important to understanding the science concepts introduced in the books. In addition, literature is a fun and engaging way to create interest in topics such as metamorphosis, weather, plants, the senses and balance. Large Illustrations and visuals are especially important for the majority of students who are second language learners. The children love to look through the view finder and often want to share the images with me giving me the opportunity to discuss the various topics like metamorphosis with them individually, and to reinforce concepts introduced in the books. Unfortunately, the view finders and the slides need to be replaced due to wear and tear overtime with continuous use. The manipulatives /toys will provide a fun, engaging, and interactive way to encourage problem solving, and critical thinking through hands on play based learning. This also helps to build children’s self-esteem from solving problems on their own. First and foremost, it will give children the foundational knowledge and skills to continue their discovery of the physical and natural world while increasing their independence and literacy skills.
