Every time we open a new package, they immediately gather around the table to see what it is. This time the package was big and that created more curiosity among them. \r\nAt first, they were trying to guess what the new material or toy was, next they started to ask questions about it. After listening to some directions on how to use the tuff tray, we brainstormed together on what kind of activities they would like to experienced with. Most of their answers were \"water\"!! of course! they experienced with water, colors and other materials. \r\nMy students were really engaged in all the activities we did using our Tuff tray. They were excited to try on their own and we had to use the timer, because everyone wanted to spend time here.\r\nThis school year, we will add sensory materials to the tuff tray, we will also incorporate loose parts to give our students opportunities to count, sort, and create patterns on their own. We are excited to continue planning hands on activities to encourage them to explore.","fullyFundedDate":1742485692582,"projectUrl":"project/senses-unleashed/9171118/","projectTitle":"Senses Unleashed!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Covinos","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1159179_orig.jpg?crop=581,581,x46,y184&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730757676699","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1159179"},{"teacherId":1795005,"projectId":6164468,"letterContent":"The light table is used daily in my classroom. The students enjoy building structures and experimenting with different configurations of the colorful manipulatives with friends. These are stimulating activities for developing math skills such as spatial relations, patterning, awareness of changes in quantity, and organization. It has benefits for knowledge of cause and effect. When placing the manipulatives on the table the students learn that the colors change and they can blend colors as well as how they can balance and combine different manipulatives to build a structure. In addition there are many opportunities for social emotional learning and practice because this is a two person activity and students need to negotiate sharing the materials and space at the table, and weather to work together or separately. They can draw how a character feels, or how a situation makes them feel. When they investigate outdoors, they use art supplies to show what they saw and learned.\r\n As most of our students come from low-income backgrounds, school is a place of resources they don't otherwise have available.
