Help me give my students diverse mathematical perspectives and narratives that highlight the contributions of mathematicians from various cultural backgrounds.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. ALDRICH's classroom raised $299

My Project
I want to create an inclusive mathematics classroom that embraces diversity, equity, and mathematical literacy as interconnected pillars. By intentionally selecting diverse mathematical narratives and resources, my hope is this can help students see themselves reflected in these stories, breaking down traditional barriers and stereotypes. Mathematical literacy goes beyond computational skills and connects students to real-world experiences across cultures.
My goal is to transform my classroom from a math classroom that is perceived exclusively and teaching the state standards to an inclusive, dynamic math classroom where student recognizes their inherent mathematical potential.
By integrating literacy, cultural representation, and equitable teaching practices, I hope to help students develop not just mathematical skills, but also a deeper appreciation for the universal language of mathematics.
All of the books in this project are not available from our local library. I will supplement this book selection by also using the resource of our school and local libraries to allow for a wider selection.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and considering making a donation to my classroom project. I am very excited about the potential to grow my classroom library for my 8th grade students.
