Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The joy of reading a variety of genres at the 4/5th grade level is fundamental to future learning. Stephen Foster School is an urban school of 750 students with an 85% free and/or reduced lunch population. The ability to read and understand printed material impacts all aspects of academic life for these children. Storyworks Magazine is a publication that lifts even the most reluctant reader. It is full of literature from current, award-winning authors, plays to encourage fluency, language puzzles to increase vocabulary, and activities that children enjoy. It fits well into our State English/Language Arts Standards that encourage a wide assortment of reading materials. Twenty-two students would receive 8 issues during the school year. These copies are theirs to keep and to build their own home library. Parent involvement activities are included for home use. This is a wonderful vehicle for urban students to experience the joy of learning.
