My Students
I teach in a school where the student population is linguistically and culturally diverse, and which services a community with families from all over the world. I am always looking for highly engaging, creative ways to tap into my students' hunger for knowledge and their curiosity about the world, whether it is through art, music, dance, or literature.
I see the exciting possibilities that I can make available to my students who need opportunities to explore creative and critical thinking through different learning modalities.
And I am often touched by the level of care and kindness with which all my students help each other in our quest to learn. Now, even in my eighteenth year as an educator, my students never cease to amaze me with their persistence and grit in learning new content, as well as their inquisitiveness, creativity, and eagerness to learn new things.
My Project
Joy. Curiosity. Enthusiasm. These three words not only describe my students perfectly, but they are also what I hope VersaTiles Literacy materials would ignite in my students when they get to use them. The VersaTiles will be a useful, enriching, and powerful addition to my student-centered language arts time, enhancing the activities we already have established in regards to our readers workshop, writers workshop, word work, and listening to audiobooks.
The VersaTiles kit aligns beautifully with the content standards that are taught in English-Language Arts in a way that is fun, thoughtful, and engaging.
Children will benefit from and enjoy the hands-on activities offered in this kit, which will foster independence as they practice skills individually or with partners. I will also be able to monitor their progress as we use the kit in a small group setting.
