My Students

A windowless classroom?! A too-large stumbling block for tender early readers! My first graders deserve the natural lighting necessary to learn unhindered. The improved lighting I am requesting will allow my students the opportunity to practice and master their basic reading, writing, and math foundation skills.

Like any six and seven year old children, the first graders you would meet in my classroom are eager and enthusiastic about learning on the very broad spectrum.

They are question-asking, knowledge-seeking, rapidly-improving, encouragement-needing, friend-making, and joy-filling individuals who are inspired by all those who desire to help them find their talents and invest in their academic growth and success. My students have a strong desire to please their teacher and the caring adults in their lives, and I hope to give my students the support they are needing and deserving of as I become a better teacher year by year.

My Project

I have requested three lamps and the full-spectrum light bulbs they require to facilitate enhanced learning within a windowless classroom. Natural full-spectrum lighting will enable our first grade students in many physical spaces in the classroom! We will turn on these lights during writing, math, and literacy center activities that include but are not limited to the following activities: 1. Book Nook “Read-to-Self,” poetry, phonics-word work and sight word literacy centers 2. Math manipulative and concrete learning experiences and games 3. Writing enrichment time 4. Teacher-led small group differentiated instruction in math, writing and reading 5. Technology learning with Leadership-driven programs and apps
