My Students

My students live in lower socioeconomic neighborhoods that require support and resources for learning. One of the biggest challenges my students live with is the lack of knowing where their next meal will come from, not having basic care items, and needing support as a whole child. I work at a school where providing students with breaks throughout the school day helps them be successful in the classroom.

By providing opportunities to access all text, even when read aloud, will allow success and confidence building for my students.

A large percentage of our students live in multi-family member homes, foster homes, other family members and friends' homes, and hotels/motels. These students and families may not have the financial freedoms to provide areas or support for them to take breaks.

Students need support with reading texts at a grade level when they struggle with reading. Many of the students are able to answer questions accurately, but do not have a way to access that text. By providing headphones, my students will be able to access text that can be read aloud while still in the classroom with their peers.

My Project

This project will help my students be able to use text to speech software while staying in the classroom. With this project, my students will have access to headphones that will read the text aloud, but not be distracting in the whole classroom environment. By providing my students with headphones, they will be able to stay in the classroom and not be pulled.

Headphones provided to my students will help them be able to access the grade level text to listen and answer questions, while also staying the classroom with their peers.

The goal for my students is to always have them around their peers and stay in the class as much as possible. Another goal is to make the text accessible to each student that is currently reading below grade level they may not have the skills to read it. By giving them this opportunity to listen to the text, they can show me how much they learned and comprehend.
