This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are always excited and eager to learn new things. Our classroom consists of a diverse group of students with varying disabilities including ADHD, specific learning disabilities, behavior difficulties and cognitive delays. Most students don’t have access to technology at home, so a lot of them are only exposed to technology when they’re in school. I have an inquisitive group of students, who are always eager to work with technology.
They attend a Title I school where they all qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
The majority of them come from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
All of my students want to read on their own, but for some it can be a challenge. Having a classroom library filled with engaging audiobooks will give each class choices of independent reading novels that will interest and engage them. We are always looking to make connections between our curriculum and the outside world.
We need a variety of independent reading books and personal CD players that will engage them, boost their love of reading, and bring the outside world into our classroom.
Funding this project will allow me to enrich our classroom library with quality literature, both fiction and nonfiction, that students could read across the curriculum.
Students could then take Accelerated Reader quizzes on them, which boosts their reading comprehension skills. This will set them up for success in other areas of learning.
