Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Most of the successful people I've known are the ones who do more listening than talking." Bernard Baruch (Economist & adviser to US presidents). As my students thrive to be successful, they need to intensify their listening skills. Expanding our Audio Visual Library will facilitate success.
My students are second graders who vary in ability levels.
They love to immerse themselves in books. Most of them come from poverty stricken homes that don't have resources to be successful. Many of them are only exposed to literature in the classroom.
My Project
Having an abundant Audio Visual Library in the classroom allows struggling readers to feel a sense of accomplishment when reading books that they may not be able to read on their own. Listening Centers promote students' vocabulary, fluency, pacing and builds confidence. The use of audio visual aids in classroom teaching stimulates interest in pupils. This leads to the whole hearted attention on the part of learner, which ultimately develop a linking for subjects.
We are transitioning into the Common Core and meeting the needs of 24 students who vary in ability levels.
Audio Visual work stations target Common Core standards in these areas: Phonemic awareness, Phonics, Listening & following directions, Vocabulary, Fluency and Comprehension.
