My Project
The students in my class are young adults diagnosed with Autism, Intellecutal Disabilities and Down Syndrome. They are working towards becoming independent teenagers and adults. They are eager to learn and be independent despite their academic challenges. My students have been given iPads by our school district. They love using them in class and most of our curriculum utilizes an online component.
My students use headphones to read on iPads and most of our programs for our special needs students feature a "read to student" function.
As you can imagine if headphones are not available, it can be quite noisy and distracting to students without headphones. Our classroom headphones endure much wear and tear. Our supply of headphones has been depleted to just a few. It is time to purchase new headphones for my current students and for those to come in the future.
I would like my students to be able to enjoy reading and listen to stories through headphones and be able to complete their classwork. It can be very difficult to block out noise from other iPads while trying to learn on your own iPad. Headphones encourage attention and focus which leads to story comprehension due to less distractions. My students will benefit this year and my future students will too.
