To help my students become confident and fluent readers, I want to create a Listening Center in our classroom with personal CD players and headphones. These will allow students to listen to books read aloud, follow along with the text, and develop skills in vocabulary, comprehension, and pronunciation. Listening to stories supports students at all levels—and most importantly, it makes reading fun and accessible!
Many early reader books come with accompanying CDs, and we already have a growing collection waiting to be used.
With a class set of portable CD players, students can work independently or in small groups during literacy rotations. This will also help me differentiate instruction so all students can grow at their own pace.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
