Listening to Comprehend!
Help me give my students a complex text rich listening center in which they can increase their listening and comprehension skills! The goal is to use these supplies to give a more purposeful listening center.
I teach in a low socio-economic school and unfortunately, many of the children that come through my room don't have basic supplies. Therefore, I provide most of the materials that are in my room. Regardless of their backgrounds, all of my students are excited about being at school and they love to learn new things. Creating a fun, safe environment is the ultimate goal so that my students know they can learn while having fun. Being in a low-income area, my students don't have the chance to be exposed to much technology, so having the chance to provide that for them is something I strive to do.
By adding rich,complex text that students can listen to daily, I can increase their listening skills and their ability to comprehend a text. Students will use these supplies daily during our Literacy station rotations and then respond to what they have listened/read. This will also help students with their fluency skills by exposing them to a fluent reader. They will be able to listen to different tones and learn how to pause, exclaim, or question when relating what is being read aloud to the text in front of them. Adding theses texts will give students a chance to learn new material independently.
