My Students
My students are very independent and ready to take their learning into their own hands. They are curious, inquisitive, and outgoing. There is no challenge they are not willing to tackle.
Teaching in such a diverse city like Houston, my students deserve the best education that our school can give them.
I want them to reach for the moon, but also know if they miss, that it is OK. In our classroom, they are a community and they are in charge, I am just there if they need help. My kids never give up and push forward until they are finished and have done the best they can do.
My Project
As a second year teacher, I don't have a listening center for my students. I follow the daily 5 routine, but my students aren't able to do the listening part of daily 5. My kids love to read to themselves and to a partner, but they are missing the listen to reading.
Reading along, while you listen to the CD is very important for beginning readers, not only does it help develop a love for reading, but it helps with fluency and comprehension.
It is especially beneficial to my kids who can't quite read yet this gives them an outlet to be able to enjoy books.
I only have a few headphones for my kids to use and they are slowly breaking. Getting them a handful of new headphones will help bring the books to life as they read along with the CD. The MP3 players will give them the tools to listen to all the books. I will be able to upload it into the MP3 players to give them so many different books to choose from.
