This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Can you imagine looking at the words on this page and not being able to fluently read them? Can you imagine how you would feel about yourself? My third grade students struggle with reading and the only way for them to become better readers is to be immersed in literature!
After assessing my students reading level, I found that the majority of my students are below reading level.
My class ranges from kindergarten reading levels to the end of third grade. However, my students LOVE to read and love literature. Their favorite time of the day (besides recess) is reading independently.
My Project
If my students have the ability to listen to reading more, they will significantly improve on their reading. During our daily 5 centers students will be able to go an actual listening center and hear stories that will build their fluency and word recognition.
Take a minute, to examine how literacy impacts your life.
You read daily and are surrounded by words. My students have a deep appreciation for literacy but need a lot of development in terms of literacy development. Once we empower the students to read the possibilities of what they can be and who they can be are endless.
