This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My kindergartners are loving, curious, and crazy about learning. Every morning, they greet me at the door with a handshake, hug, or high five. Some of them haven't had breakfast; others have their shoes on the wrong feet, but they all come in with a smile and a will to learn. And they LOVE to learn, especially through hands-on experiences. We spend our day building core academic and social-emotional skills, and we work every day to prepare each scholar for college and beyond.
Our school is a K-8 public charter school in a low-income area where over 80% of students receive free or reduced lunch.
We believe in the power of a tight-knit community, and I’m proud to be a part of this incredible school. I am lucky to work with an amazing group of educators, all of whom are dedicated to our school's mission, to make College for Certain.
My Project
I recently uploaded all of my audiobooks to Google Drive, and students can now access dozens of books on tape through QR codes. However, my class set of headphones is old and broken, so my students are missing out!
A class set of headphones would give each student access to this incredible literacy resource!
The listening library is one of my students' favorite literacy centers, and we use it daily. Listening to books on tape builds important literacy foundations in children of all ages, especially emerging readers.
Noise cancelling ear muffs are also helpful for centers so students who have a difficult time concentrating can focus on their independent work.
