Help me give my students the opportunity to learn even when they struggle to sit still by allowing flexible seating. The wobble chairs and other seating cushions will help my students to focus.
I am teaching a wonderful group of 3rd graders with a love for learning. They are motivated and willing to do what is needed to learn. However, many of my students struggle to stay focused. I teach in a low income school and over half of students receive free or reduced-price lunches. I have tried multiple options to help my students focus and the one thing that worked best was when I borrowed wobble chairs and seat cushions from a fellow teacher. I knew right away that I needed this for my students.
Every child deserves the best possible chance for success.
That is why I am asking for help so my students can have every advantage I can give them. I believe that having flexible seating will continue to support my students and their learning process.
My Project
These seating choices will greatly enhance my students' ability to focus and engage in the learning process. Students would be allowed to choose between a wobble seat or cushion or maybe even a balance ball to sit on for the day. It would put them in charge of what they needed in order to focus on learning that day. If this project is fully funded, my students will get to choose the seating style that works best for them.
When students are involved in decision making, they are more likely to "buy" into the process and, therefore, be more engaged.
I believe that when students are comfortable with the seating arrangement, they will be more focused on the content being taught.
I thank you in advance for donating to such a great project. My students are already excited about the possibility of having flexible seating in the classroom.
