I am the Media Specialist for a high poverty, inner city elementary school in Indiana.

Many of our students arrive at school with no ability to read. Because of this lack of ability, many teachers use listening stations to aid in teaching reading. Many children are able to pick up on sounds and words easier if they can hear the words being properly spoken at the same time that they are seeing them in print. Listening stations are a huge part of our reading program and when purchasing new books with read alongs, teachers are finding that the sets only come with CD's. We currently have no listening stations which accommodate CD's, they are only set up to play cassette tapes.

In order to use the best format for helping our students to read, new technology is needed. Manufacturers of these materials are only selling the audio on CD. Our students need access to this updated resource so that they may continue to learn in valuable audio / visual manner.

Your gift will help our students hear the words that they are trying to learn how to read independently. Our students progress much faster with the aid of listening stations.
