My Project
I am a special education teacher for students in grades 9-12. My students have varying degrees of learning difficulties. I am requesting a variety of headphones and earbuds to allow my students to work independently with the type of listening device that is comfortable and suits the needs of the technology that they are utilizing.
My students struggle to get their basic needs met.
Due to the extremely high poverty rates in our community, all students in the district receive free meals. I have students in my classroom who come from all kinds of living situations. Very few live at home with a parent. Some are homeless or doubling up with family or friends. Some are living with relatives. Others are in foster care or other out of home placements. Some live on their own and can barely pay for rent and utilities. A few don't ever seem to stay in the same spot more than a night or two. Most cannot afford basic school supplies, making something like headphones or earbuds a luxury.
This project will supply our Resource Room with bluetooth headphones and earbuds that students can use during independent learning time. This will support my ability to differentiate instruction and provide materials that are individualized based on each student's specific needs.
