My students are always full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day, even though a majority of them come from a difficult home-life.
I teach at a Title I school in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where over 90 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive food from Backpack Buddies on the weekend, and our school also provides multiple opportunities for the families to get basic things they could not afford on their own. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
My students have loved being able to listen to a fluent readers read some of their favorite stories. They are excited to go to the station, but they are going to need more books.
During workstations, my students get to listen to examples of fluent readers through the listening station.
They have already gone through our first set of books and are very excited to get more choices to listen to! By having more options of books and CDs, my students will not become bored with the listening station. They will always be excited to see what they get to read next, which will allow them to harvest a love for reading.
