My students need a listening center and 3 sets of CD read-alongs.

Help my students learn the words that are being read as they hold the story in their hands! Hearing the words of a story is just as important as following along in a book yourself. A listening center makes it possible for students to hold their own book while someone else tell the story.
My first grade students are just learning to read.
These students attend a public school Louisiana, and they know the importance of reading and learning new words. As my students begin to identify words and the sounds associated with them, their vocabulary is continuously growing. My students are questioning, always wanting to know more. They love to hear a good story, and they love even more to have the ability to follow along with the words themselves. When I read a book to the class, my students all try to sit in the front so they can see the words and follow along. They want to know what the words I am saying look like.
The group of students who will be utilizing the listening center will be able to work independently, allowing me to work one-on-one with their classmates at other centers. The students at the listening center will be able to see words of a story as they are being read by physically holding their own individual book in front of them. This will help my students in identifying new words as well as reading along with the story.
A listening center makes it possible for my students to hear a story as well as see the words as they are read.
My students are passionate about expanding their knowledge base. This is apparent by the multitude of questions I hear every day. Seeing the words as they are read in front of them will help in expanding their vocabulary, spelling skills, reading skills, and more. First grade is an important time in creating positive growth, and I feel that a listening center will impact them greatly.
