"A love of reading is one of the best and most lasting gifts you can give your children." The students in my class love to hear stories, if they had headphones and books/CDs to listen to, this gift would be given to them daily.
My students are highly engaged by listening to books on CD.
The books they hear on CD quickly become class favorites that they request over and over again! Even my most reluctant readers, the ones who get wiggly the minute I pull out a book, are held captive by books on CD.
My Project
My students need four headphones, a station junction box, and books on CD for listening center materials! Young children learn about the world from books. It takes them outside of the classroom to another time and place. Suddenly they are Koala Lou climbing the Gum Tree learning that they are always loved or Pete the Cat rocking out in their school shoes and knowing "it's all good!"
The youngest learners in my school will have a listening center where they can choose from various genres and timeless classics.
New books will quickly become well-loved favorites.
