This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low income school, my students face many challenges each day. All students receive free breakfast and 95% qualify for free lunch. Many have little support at home or parents who speak other languages.
Even with these challenges, my students come to school with a smile on their face and are eager to learn.
They are hardworking kids and I want to continue to foster their love of school and learning by allowing them opportunities they may not have at home.
My Project
My students need a listening center with CD player and headphones to use with the books and CDs requested during our center rotations in my first grade classroom. Many of my students do not have a good model of what fluent reading sounds like. By using the listening center they will be able to hear a variety of readers and relax while listening to their favorite books.
Listening to stories will help my first graders to improve their reading fluency by hearing what a good reader sounds like.
They will follow along in their books as they listen to the story. Students will also improve their listening comprehension skills by answering questions about the stories they hear.
I want to give my students many opportunities to learn in different ways and a listening center is sure to excite them about learning.
