Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day, my first-grade students come to school and pledge to be respectful, ready to learn, and safe at all times. We have the motto, “Work hard, play hard” and that’s what we do! My students know every day is a new day and they can make the most out of it if they try. All of my students are learning at different levels and face many challenges in their lives, but they all give 100% no matter what.
My Project
In our classroom, we do what is called Daily 5. Daily 5 consists of read to self, read to someone, word work, writing, and listening to reading. Sadly, we do not get to do listening because we do not have a listening center. Research shows that doing Daily 5 is very important for students.
Listening to a book helps children realize that words on the page can come life.
It helps them focus on the sounds of words, reads without interruptions, and provides a model of fluent reading. Also, many books on tape have interesting sound effects, music, and multiple narrators that are fun for children to listen to. It will motivate them to want to read.
