Listening Center Needed!

My students need wireless headphones and books to read along with at our listening center.

My Students

Do remember learning to read? As a beginner reader, it is so important to hear texts read fluently. This is what I try to incorporate in my classroom and for my students during our listening center.

My students are an outstanding group of first graders, who are eager to reach their full potential!

Everyday they amaze me with what they can do and how much they love to learn! One of their favorites parts of the day is our literacy centers. One of our centers is the listening station. They love this center and I love it too! Listening to a story read fluently increases their ability to read fluently, which is huge for beginner readers. Unfortunately, our school's funds are low and I only have 2 working headphones (and one is barely hanging on). With 3-4 students per group, having a shortage of headphones makes the listening center pretty ineffective. They have been good sports to share and take turns but many times students are left to just follow along while two students get to listen and follow along. I would like to see them grow into outstanding readers, to help us we need to have an effective, working listening center. My students work so hard and they deserve it.

My Project

With a wireless listening station, my students will be able to hear text read fluently. Wireless headphones will make it easier to keep the center organized and without the hassle of cords getting tangled, they'll last longer. Right now, students are having to share headphones and there is one book per group. With the new headphones and new books, students will be able to have their own books to follow along with and will all be able to listen to the story at the same time. They are so eager to become fluent readers and I want to be able to provide them with the opportunity!

They love going to the listening center. It does so much for their love of reading. We need headphones that work and books they love to help them become the best they can be!
