Hooray! This project is fully funded
I am a 2ND grade teacher at a public school in the Bronx. My anticipated class size in September is 24 students. Three years ago our school began using the Balanced Literacy program. It is a program that incorporates reading, listening, and writing. I would like to have a listening center (tape player and headphones) in the classroom to improve their skills in these areas.
With a listening center, students could listen alone or as a group to tapes of someone reading to them. Often, the tape accompanies a book and the children follow along. This would be especially beneficial for struggling readers and English as a Second Language students.
Students would be able to use the listening center daily during our Balanced Literacy time. It would improve their listening, reading, and comprehension skills.
It would be greatly appreciated if the children were to have a listening center. They are often too expensive for teachers to buy out of pocket. It would provide lots of enjoyment while improving their skills at the same time.
