My students need an iPod nano for us to load these new books and music- since CDs can be scratched! We need an iPod speaker dock so we can all listen together.

My Students
My classroom is driven by music! My students have limited speech but yet have learned to say their favorite songs. I teach Special Education Preschool and music is such an important part of their learning. We have learned colors, animals, shapes, and directions through music.
I have 18 very high energy special needs preschoolers.
They are between the ages of three and five. We have students that have all ranges of disabilities from Autism to hearing impairments and everything in between. I teach at a Title I school which we have very limited funding. These students so desperately need the exposure to music and to stories to help them grow.
My Project
We are requesting an iPod, iPod speaker dock, books, and CDs. My students would use these materials during circle time for our activities where we do motor imitation. We will play music and books and create activities for each song or book. Having my children physically active while listening to music helps them with their gross and fine motor movements. It is so important for them to be able to follow gross and fine motor movements. It also is an important skills to be able to sit appropriately and follow directives. We work on these skills while listening to music. We also will use these materials during instructional time with text related to our curriculum and for center times when the students just want to sit and listen to a book. We can listen to one of our new books and learn new words. My students love looking at new stories and we have some tapes but they are wearing out- being able to have a library of books on an iPod for us to easily access will help these students so much.
Speech and language is such an important thing for our children to learn and master.
We can use music to help achieve this. We also can help these students learn important direction following skills with these materials. It is so important to find ways to bridge the learning gaps and music is a way to do this four our students.
