Listening center for readers who need extra support!

My students need a listening center and jumbo pencils for additional support in reading. This is a strategy to help struggling students who generally need to hear fluent reading.

My Students

who are struggling readers will have daily opportunities to use the listening center to hear their favorite books on tape or CD. Study show that low readers generally are not read to you on a nightly basis,so it is imperative that they here reading daily.

This year I have several high need students who are struggling readers.

I also have second-language learners who need additional support with language development. The listening center will be an extremely useful tool to help assist my eager students who are auditory learners. Our school is diverse it has met title I requirements. While some students are receiving direct instruction in small reading groups other students will be utilizing the listening center this will allow me to service more children during reading time.

My Project

My students will be able to access rich text for vocabulary development and have an opportunity to hear literature that they cannot read. It will give them an opportunity to hear literature read fluently on a daily base. I have about 300 books and tape but no listening center so this will be a good opportunity to utilize materials already available in the classroom.

Students will have more autonomy to choose literature that they would not usually be able to access because of their low reading level.

It also will give them more axis to academic language. Generally students who don't feel successful in reading don't read, so this will also give them an opportunity to hear meaningful stories. ESL students also known as second-language learners have an opportunity to hear rich language through diverse literature.
