My class consists of developmentally delayed preschoolers in a high-need elementary school. Their disabilities range from mild to severe developmental delays such as: language and/or speech impaired, autism, emotional disorders or cognitive delays. My young students come to school each day excited about learning. They are eager to see what is happening in their classroom and excited to try new things with their friends.
We work hard to create a "School Family" environment.
We celebrate successes, big and small, together. They learn to encourage each other while working and playing with each other. Working to be kind friends is a top priority for my students. Creating an environment that is language rich and encourages exploration is my top priority.
I would like to create an independent listening center with these headphones and CD player for my preschoolers to use during our Center Time. Reading is the best way to increase a young child's vocabulary and I am trying to develop a love of reading and books with my young students. I have a designated book area in our classroom where the children sit comfortably to enjoy our thematic book collections. Adding a listening center to this area that they are able to control on their own would help to keep my little ones engaged and feeling "big" and independent. I have a large collection of books and utilize the public library to supplement my collection. Keeping the book area fresh and new always help to promote interest!
