My students are craving new and innovative ways to learn. We love reading and listening to stories. In our centers, I a hoping to show them another path towards discovering the gift of reading and immersing oneself in a book.
My students come from very low SES households and broken families.
They are enthusiastic, and heartfelt kids, especially considering their tragic circumstances. My school is a title 1 school and we work to reach the needs of every student in our building. My class is beyond active, we love to learn through activities and exploration. When they come to school, it's an opportunity to put their worries behind them and to have a chance to make discoveries.
My Project
A listening center is a highly desirable tool because it allows students the opportunity to listen to fluent readers. Listening to fluent readers helps students build site word fluency, models phrasing and fluency, exposes students to a variety of story structures (genres), supports and builds listening skills, fosters independence, supplements content curriculum, and allows for book talks and discussions among students.
Your donation will push current students and future students into the 21st century with technology in the classroom. It will provide freedom of choice. When students have the opportunity to self-select then they build a love for reading!
My students are considerably low on national standards for ELA, so providing any opportunity for them to increase their comprehension and fluency levels, will greatly improve their academic experience.
Increasing their ELA levels, will carry over into other content areas. This will further their overall enjoyment of learning!
